Hey bridal babes! If you’ve been tuning into Martini Mondays with Chrissy, then you already know the first three things you must do after getting engaged:
- Create a budget
- Make your guest list
- Book that venue
And if you haven’t been listening… what are you even doing? Grab a martini (shaken, not stirred), and catch up!
Now, allow me to step in with my stylist hat on—because it’s time to talk about the real star of the show (aside from you, obviously): the wedding dress. Yep, we’re diving into the most iconic part of your bridal journey. But before you start dreaming about designers and scrolling through couture lace on Pinterest at 2 a.m., let’s cover what really needs to happen before your first bridal appointment.
Budget: The Word That Makes Everyone Cringe (But Can’t Be Ignored)
I know, I know—budget is such a buzzkill word. But babe, it’s a non-negotiable & #1 to get down before your bridal appointment. Whether you’re footing the bill yourself or someone else is generously chipping in, sit down and have the talk. And don’t forget to include tax (sigh), accessories (veil, jewelry, shoes), and of course… ALTERATIONS.
Hot tip from your favorite bridal stylist: There’s no point in wearing a dress that doesn’t fit perfectly. Alterations are just as important as saying yes to the dress itself.
Do Your Homework, Honey
Before you start booking salons, dig a little deeper than that one viral TikTok. Check out boutique websites to get a feel for price points—many post a price range, and if not, don’t be shy… call and ask!
Start saving photos of styles you’re loving on Instagram, Pinterest, or even go old-school with bridal magazines (still my personal fave). Whether you’re into clean and modern or full-on ballgown drama, this mood board will help guide your consultant.
Now, here’s the plot twist: You may fall in love with something completely different. Happens all the time. So come in with inspo, but also with an open mind. After all, falling in love with a gown is kind of like falling in love with your fiancé… not always what you expected, but absolutely perfect for you.
Choose Your Crew (Wisely)
Yes, it’s tempting to bring your mom, sister, bestie, maid of honor, aunt, college roommate, and your nail tech (she has heard it all)—but less is more. Trust me.
Keep your entourage small and supportive. Too many opinions can cloud your own, and in the end, your voice is the one that counts. Oh—and check with the salon about guest limits before you show up with a party bus.
What to Wear (and What Not To)
Let’s talk dressing room do’s and don’ts:
- Underwear? Yes. Skin-toned, please.
- Bra? Totally optional—we’ve seen it all.
- Shoes? Up to you. Most boutiques will pop you on a pedestal, so heels are not a must.
Basically, think “bride going to the gyno” level of prep—but make it fashion.
Final Martini-Sip
So there you have it—your cheeky, no-fluff guide to prepping for your first bridal appointment. Trust the process, keep an open mind, and remember: the right gown is out there waiting to make you feel like you, just turned up to bridal-level fabulous.
Got questions? Want some pre-appointment pep talk? Slide into my DMs, babe. Let’s make some magic happen.
Cheers + Kisses,

Dressing you from “Yes” to “I Do”

Giving you some inspo to create your own inspo (how many times can I say inspo in one post!?) Collages are a good way to get an idea together of what bride you want to be, but listen babe, BE OPEN MINDED, you never know what you may fall in love with. Inspo boards are just that, inspiration.
