Ladies, gather ‘round. Your favorite bridal stylist (hi, it’s me!) is officially on TikTok — and I’m kicking things off with my number one piece of advice for every bride walking into a bridal gown appointment:
Wear. Skin. Colored. Underwear.
For the love of the bridal fashion gods, make this a priority! Wedding gowns come in endless shades of “white” — ivory, alabaster, champagne, soft blush — and no matter how many layers of tulle or satin you’ve got going on, your black lace or leopard thong will make an appearance. Trust me, I’ve seen it all. And once you see it through the gown, it’s all anyone can look at (and not in a good way).
So before your appointment, do yourself (and your stylist!) a favor: keep it neutral. Nude, skin-toned, seamless — these are your best friends in the fitting room.
Need a recommendation?
My go-to’s for the perfect invisible nude are SPANX’s “Extra-Ordinary” briefs and thongs — they’re smooth, comfortable, truly disappear under any gown, and hold you in. If you’re more of a lace lover, Hanky Panky is a forever favorite. They give that feminine, flirty touch without ruining the gown’s silhouette.
Next on the list: shapewear.
Now, this one’s not a must, but it’s a strong suggestion. If you plan on wearing shapewear on your wedding day, bring it to your appointment. It helps us see how the gown will truly fit and lay on your body. Think of it as the foundation before your makeup — it smooths everything out and helps you (and your stylist) see the full picture.
And finally: let’s talk bras.
Here’s the truth — you probably don’t need one. Most bridal gowns are built with structure and support already in mind. In fact, wearing a bra can often distort the way the bodice fits. Plus, most of us aren’t wearing the right bra size anyway (you know it’s true). So skip it! Let the gown’s design do what it’s meant to do — make you look and feel incredible.
